Not shutting down
Moen Kinston distribution center will not be affected by company’s move in Craven
By Noah Clark
Contrary to an earlier report, Moen will not be not be closing its distribution center in Kinston.
Yvonne Wold, manager of Moen’s New Bern plant, said the company is building a warehouse in Craven County to support the assembly plant already in operation there. However, the plan does not call for the closure of the Kinston center.
“This new building in no way will impact the Moen distribution center located in Kinston,” she said. “The Moen distribution center in Kinston will continue to operate and distribute Moen finished faucets in North America.”
During a presentation to the Craven County Board of Commissioners on Monday Timothy Downs, Craven County’s economic development director, mentioned the Kinston center when telling the commissioners about Moen’s plans for Craven County.
“Moen currently has an operation in Kinston that has served the assembly operation that is here,” he said. “The operation in Kinston is ceasing and being moved to Craven County.”
Downs said when her referred to Kinston in the presentation, he was talking about the company’s component warehouse, not the distribution center.
The Kinston Component Warehouse is on N.C. 58, about 30 miles from New Bern, and managed by a third-party partner, West Logistics.
The Moen distribution center in Kinston is located near Kinston Regional Jetport, which Moen vice president of general distribution Shelley Kiley said Tuesday employs 150 people and will continue to operate and distribute Moen faucets in North America.
What Moen intends to do is use a 200,000-square foot building that will be built in the Industrial Park by SST Properties, Inc. as a staging warehouse.
Moen Incorporated, based in North Olmsted, Ohio, has U.S. faucet manufacturing operations in New Bern and Sanford, and makes its stainless steel sinks in Pine Grove, Pennsylvania. It also has a manufacturing facility in Guangzhou, China.
In addition to the Kinston facility, the company distributes from sites in Las Vegas, Nev., Oakville, Ontario, and other sites around the world.
